I have an alstroemeria, which at present is living in a large tub. Next year I want to plant it out in the garden. What is the best way to overwinter in the pot - do I leave it outside or bring it into the garage? If the latter, should I keep it watered? (I don't want to put it in the garden 'til next year because it its far too wet!

if the winter isnt too harsh it will be ok but I have known them die off in pots in severe frosts. if inside a garage etc then keep them barely damp.

I'm in two minds about alstroemeria. One mind says put them in the bin and the other says they look good in pots. I like them but I know several people who have them in the garden and they have spread all over. It is very hard to dig out the fleshy roots, especially in a clay type soil, and once they get amongst other plant root systems you have no chance but poison. So beware.

How do I say thanks?
