Can I use grass fertilizer on a tree?

I wouldn't anticipate a problem, as long as it isn't a "weed and feed". You might need to add some bone meal, or other phosphate, if it is a flowering and/or fruiting tree, and you have acidic soil.

I don't think so - it'll be a different formula. I'd suggest getting a general purpose food like 'Blood, fish and bone'. Rake it in the soil around the roots in the spring.
