I'm making a rockery. Is it ok to use the leftover bag of sharp sand I bought at the builders merchants or do I need to buy a new bag of horticultural grade sharp sand from my local garden centre?

Many thanks for your advice; will get the horticultural grit as you suggest.

I get my sharp sand from the local builders merchant and never had a problem with it. If Vindiboy is talking about less than a bagfull, even if it may have some salt, it will easily be absorbed within the soil of a rockery.

I hadn't noticed that it was sharp sand that was mentioned - thought all builders sand was the fine stuff. But it would still be a good idea to mix some grit with it don't you think?

No, don't use builders sand, it is too fine and may be salty. You would be better buying some fairly small horticultural grit.
