I have frozen sliced Runner Beans for years without blanching. No problems.

I can't eat cooked r. beans any more, they squeak on my teeth and I can't stand it. and the OM can't stand them cooked beyond heated but still crunchy.

I knew an allotment gardener years ago who grew a
30 foot long row of Runner Beans on his plot. He hated them ! Never ate them. Used to sell them to all the ladies who came by the field. Ha ha.
I saw them in Sainsbury's yesterday £1.50 for about 7 in a pack.

I have found most varieties freeze well particulary if harvested quite young.
Can you explain what you mean by 'awful'?
