can spring be far behind?

Returning to GOY after what seems like no time at all, suddenly the UK is thick with snow (some of it); winter draws on.
I’d forgotten how much fun it is in here. I was at a loose end this dreary Sunday afternoon, and now feel cheered among familiar names.

Last time I was on the site I was hoping to show you before and after pictures of my costly guttering, then in progress.

Here’s ‘before’, but ‘after’ will have to wait, as I dropped and smashed my trusty camera after taking this shot, delighted there was still so much colour in the garden:

Father Christmas may bring me a new camera, if I’m a good girl (fat chance!) but meanwhile I keep seeing wonderful sights, like yesterday’s “rosy-fingered” dawn and can’t share them.

While the scaffolding was up I kept my bedroom blind closed. Now open again, I find I’ve missed most of autumn. The trees are now bare, the view from the window is so dominated by the trees that their condition defines the season, and my mood!
Now I can fantasise that winter is already half over and that, in a “few weeks” it will turn around, with snowdrops and crocus just around the corner.
I went down to the river and found comfrey and hogweed with new flowers. No kingfisher today, but the heron flew over, looking annoyed that I was in his territory.
