Thinking of making a ball-type planter on a stem -Part 2

The next stage was to find something to use as a liner. I found some felt fabric in the shed so I placed it in the wire basket and cut around it ready to fill. Other suggestions I had to use for a liner was moss, old jumper, bin bags
In hindsight I wished I had placed the felt liner in the wire basket, filled it with compost and then cut the felt to size when it was full as it was much easier to estimate the size of felt required. I did it that way with the second basket and it was much easier:-
The next stage was to put a sheet of cardboard over one of the baskets and flip it over on top of the second basket to put the two halves together. The cardboard stops the compost falling out.
The sheet of cardboard was then carefully slid out:-
I wired together the two halves using wire plant ties
I then found a finial (salvaged from the handle of an old skipping rope! and screwed it on the top to finish it off. I am using the central umbrella hole in the outside table to hold it up for the time being.
I just placed some greenery temporary on the ball to see how it looks
Here is another shot
I have to get some plants now to grow into it. Thanks for the suggestions so far. Another friend recommended bacupa-I need to ‘google’ that as I don’t know what that plant looks like yet.
I will write another blog when I get it planted up. :-)

This link will take you to my garden pic of Bacopa Snowflake that I had last year Richard. Very small flowers but very nice to look at.
