Back again with Part 2 as promised.

I’m always a sucker for the large classic high-centred rose, especially one with such a striking colour as this bloom of Wimi. It was one of a set of three blooms that won first prize in its class.
-——————————————————————————————
Open Arms, a repeat-flowering rambler, also won first prize in its category – for a bowl of miniature cluster-flowered blooms. Sadly though its scent is only slight.

Can anyone make out the name on the label of this lovely prize winning vase – or better still even recognise it?
I cannot help but agree with the namer of this next one – Isn’t She Lovely! The judges obviously agreed because she too was awarded first prize in her class.

I find her perfect form and wonderfully delicate pastel shades utterly bewitching.

You’d be forgiven for mistaking this bloom for Hannah Gordon, but it’s actually called Birthday Girl

I was very taken with a whole bank of small but classic HT shaped blooms of which Arcanum below is just one example. So taken I got chatting to one of the exhibitors who generously spent some time explaining all about it. He explained that it belongs to a fairly new hybrid species, the miniflora.
Having been out of the exhibition loop for more than a decade I told him I’d never even heard of the miniflora. He said the bushes can be as much as four feet tall yet the blooms, whilst bigger than a miniature, are considerably smaller than the average hybrid tea. The US rose authorities awarded this category official recognition as recently as 1999 and since then it has apparently gone from strength to strength.
Such was the impact of this amazing new genre – it took up something like a quarter of the whole show – I’d like to delve much more into it in Part 3 of this blog.

Meanwhile for my final contribution to Part 2 it’s back to that good old favourite, the hybrid tea.
Thank you for reading my blog. Once again I hope you have enjoyed the show and will join me again for Part 3 in the next few days …

Thank you Lincslass. Fantastic indeed, I was in rose heaven! And that was just the show. I haven't mentioned yet that I also took quite a few snaps in the completely redesigned RNRS rose gardens. Another blog coming down the line for that one too - you have been warned!
