About me

I live in rural West Texas, where conditions are hot and dry. There is little rainfall and temps range from mid 90s to 100+ from late May through Sept. I am trying to establish flower beds, but have no shade at all, so things burn up no matter how much I water.

I really don't care for the various forms of Cactus and other dessert plants. The only things that I have any success with are trumpet vines, honeysuckle, and bougainvillea. My boggies have to dug up, and brought in during the winter, because the temps can get in the teens at night.

My local nurserymen have made numerous suggested numerous plants to try. They all died rather quickly. I have some vinca minor planted, right now. They have done well the last two months. This month (July) several plants were fine one day, then the leaves turned yellow, and died soon after.

Any ideas about what is happening to my vincas or suggestions about what to plant, under these conditions, would be very much appreciated.
