Semaj's Profile

I am 59 years old. I live in an ordinary pre-war semi just north of Stoke-on-Trent. I worked in coal mining engineering for 20 years and I am an ex - 1984 striking miner. I am now an Occupational Health Nurse in the private sector (I know....quite a transition).
Predominantly I am a cottager. Unsurprisingly I find a space and plant something in it, but I am slowly working out that some plants outgrow the space, so more forward thinking these days.
Lush in summer bare in winter.........you know the form.
My favourites......lily...aquilegia.....iris sibirica......yellow fragrant roses (Chinatown in particular).... helenium ....geum.......lavender.....hebes....in fact anything that attracts bees and flutterbyes. I love the evening scent of summer jasmine and honeysucke....what's not to like?
I have a few mates like the blackbird family in the adjacent conifers, the frogs and my hedgehog pal....but he/she is a bit shy.
Dislikes.....rain (lots of that in Biddulph), clay soil, couch grass, slugs, rain, dark nights, people who say 'innit', or 'cool' if it isn't, or 'air hair lair', rain, long winters and very short summers and did I say rain.
I am also colour blind.....which makes my planting plans interesting. Obviously not that much red in my garden and lots of yellow and blue.
My garden is an ongoing project. Getting there now after 10 years of working on it a bit at a time.
Good to see so many garden lovers with great ideas and beautiful gardens. I am likely to poach a few ideas if that is OK?
