This small deciduous tree is perfect for smaller gardens and will also thrive in large containers as long as it is kept well fed and watered. It has shrubby growth and in late winter and early spring dark pink, bowl-shaped flowers appear on the bare stems. These are followed by hairy, yellow fruits that are edible but not particularly tasty as they are sour.Garden care: When planting incorporate lots of well-rotted garden compost in the planting hole and stake firmly. Prune in summer to reduce the risk of silver leaf and bacterial canker.
