Buyer beware

Not sure if this is the place for my first Blog on this site, if its wrong no doubt the moderator will kick it into touch

Heard such a lot about Thompson & Morgan but was puzzled over the lack of information on their website on product sizes, i.e. plug, large plug and plant etc other sites quantify this, so I emailed for further info. The response, a load of verbiage explained now’t.

None the less I went ahead and ordered £60+ of plugs, plants, bare root, and tubers

Then my problems started, the Begonia’s 10 @ £9.99 looked as if they were the dregs of last years crop and no where up to the quality of a local slightly more expensive garden centre

The Shasta Daisy, @ £6.99 offered as a Jumbo Plant turned out to be a 4” plug, the Penstemon’s plugs 5 for £7.49 were the worst specimens I have ever purchased.

I am still awaiting delivery of other items some of which where listed as April Delivery

There are other shortcomings but I whish not to dwell further, suffice to say buyer beware order a small quantity if you must and make judgment on your purchase.

Yes, I have emailed Customer Service so far not a word, no doubt in due course the nice lady who sent the first “informative” email will respond in a similar vane, C’est la vie, once bitten…..

Welcome to GOY shysta.
I'm sorry you have had a bad experience with T&M - many of us have. I don't use them now. Don't hold your breath about the lady getting back to you, it took several weeks before I heard from Customer
(Dis)Service and her excuse was "We've been busy"

I had some problems last year with them, But i phoned them up and they were great. i complained about a miniature apple tree that didnt bud (other 3 did) and nearly all The Colius died, No bother they said, and sent replacements :) Only about half of the new colius survived and the new apple tree has blossomed this year :0
PS.. the original none budding apple tree started to bud and that has blossomed this year to.. Shhhhhhh lol

I agree, they're not a particularly reliable or good company to buy from, probably their popularity exceeds their capability.

Had the same Shasta Daisy "jumbo" plugs issue last year. It was a collection of 3 for half price & they were doing free delivery so I thought I'll give it a try. Sent them very angry email wondering in what imaginary land these were jumbo plugs. Got a quick apologetic response promising me new plants and got exactly the same little plugs again. Didn't even bother complaining this time. They're growing well and should flower this year but the whole thing still annoys me. I have to say, if i'd paid £6.99 for one i'll demand my money back. I think big nurseries like this are to much like factory lines, they don't actually care.

I'm always 'taken' by the phographs in suppliers' literature.
Such problems appear to be universal. A few years ago my wife ordered a lot of plants from a supplier here in France; never again. We felt like Gulliver looking at the tiny 'plugs'........about 25% actually grew. I phoned to complain three times; each time we were promised replacements; still waiting!

I complain if there is a problem and have always had a swift courteous reply and replacement if nessesary from T&M and Suttons-- I recently returned an empty packet of seeds that only one germinated and recieved another packet in return
