colour and interest

I have made a concerted effort to develop and improve the garden this year, aiming to have something of colour or interest all year round, i do visit the garden centre regularly, but am trying to limit myself to plants that will fit in and do well in this shady garden.
i have made an area for a hosta and fern garden, both are doing well but im not happy with the lay out, so thats the project for next year
some of my favourite flowers are poppies and they have been out in flower since march: welsh poppies, ladybird poppies and garden gnomes.
i love bright colours but the plants that seem to suit this garden, lighting up the shade are white and yellow flowered varieties.

thank you for your help everyone, i shall try to follow up all those ideas, i had a purple heuchera which didnt do very well so i had almost given up on them, however, a bright green, lettuce like heuchera caught my eye in the garden centre so i put it in, its doing well so far, so maybe others will grow? they are a lovely colour, i didnt realise they were evergreen. i have some busy lizzy's but they didnt spread very much.

Welcome to Goy stickitoffee. If you are looking for ideas of shade plants use the A-Z at the foot of the page and click on S then click on shade plants. There are all the colours there. My favourites are Heucheras and the foliage on them can be quite spectacular as they are evergreen but in all shades from cream through to maroon. They also flower throughout the summer.Click on H and then heucheras to see a wonderful selection.
