faces of a catkin...

I was going through some of my photo’s and saw i had a few of these in it’s different stages so i though ….why not !

Bud burst you know spring is near when this happens….

starting to say hello and grow…

this was the one i macro’d close in, and looked like the back of some ones head going a bit thin :-))

this one is not the best shot but the sunlight suddenly made it light up like little lights…

Pollen getting ready to shoot out…

pollen anthers shooting forward…. well not that fast really :-)

Now the anthers are fully extended and waiting for the bee’s :-)

now that the bee’s have had their way with them, the anthers wither with tiredness…

only after looking at all the pics did i realise how i had taken them for granted, last year i took pics of the big old one at the bottom of my garden but didn’t appreciate how complex they really are till now…

like the Anthers i’m feeling tired now so i’ll say my goodbyes and thanks for looking…. :-)

What a beautiful document on Mr Catkin :)

I was taking photos of them on Tuesday SL, nearly slipped down a bank into the river and then got attacked by some strange seeds ~ the size of a conker but very prickly, I must have had 20 or 30 of them stuck to me.

Thanks Katarina :-))
