The eye of the beholder

Having spent the entirety of this and last weekend weeding out all my celandines I was somewhat shocked to find that they are now flowering right across my new lawn in their hundreds, interspersed with ladies’ smocks and dandelions, and thousands upon thousands of those tiny little dog violets that dont smell of anything at all.
Funny thing is though that the effect is rather charming. If they were difficult to grow I would probably pay my fiver at the local nursery and then scrupulously divide them every year, carefully weeding round them!
I shall go back to my weeding in the morning. But in the meantime here are some pics. I’m afraid they dont really bring the effect across cos the sun wouldnt come out today!

It must be a lovely sight for you to see those flowers from your garden. I like wild flowers and hope to have some in my garden this year , but I don't want them to become a nuisance and spread too much.

Thanks Hywel - I do like wild flowers. I'll post up some photos this evening when I have time. :)

I let the lesser celandines alone in my garden even though they spread out on to the lawn. After flowering the whole plant dies back and the roots continue to grow but nothing else is seen of them until the following year. The flowers are important to Bumblebees emerging in early spring when nectar is hard to find. Wordsworth wrote poems about them and wanted one on his tombstone unfortunately the greater celandine was carved by mistake.

Oh dear - I think I need to learn to use my camera better - these were all over exposed and had to be doctored. However - paint.net came to my rescue. It is a doctoring package on the net and is both good and free!
I'm glad we all agree that weeds can be pretty little things. Now that I have a woodland patch (that sounds very grand but it is rather minature) I shall have to rely a lot on wild garlic and lords and ladies till I can populate it with more choice items.
