Hello all,
Been off for a couple of days due to a stomach bug but felt a little better today.
We decided to go out for a wander round a local garden centre just to get some fresh air.
First mistake …. taking OH with me …
Second mistake …. taking wallet …
Never mind we now have some very nice dahlias to grow and some lilys that will look nice …. oh and a load more seeds …. oh and a book on birds for the grand daughter ….oh and lots of other things that i didn’t even realise were in the basket until we reached the checkout….kerching … £96 please.
Just gone back to bed with a terminal bout of empty walletness….

No good taking OH's, hubbies, wifies, etc to a garden centre
( unless they are as fanatical as yourself like Beryl and me lol - If I don't buy something when we go to a GC Beryl thinks I've been taken leave of my senses )
A happy wallet is an empty wallet :o)

Seems like you've had a really strong dose of retail therapy... enjoy your flowers and seeds :o)

perhaps if you had bought a money plant all would have been well?

Time seems to help with empty walletness - some more filling seems to arrive from somewhere, eventually. I'm putting off my (expected to be expensive) first-visit-to-the GC-after-Christmas til the weather's a bit more reliable.
When my OH buys expensive stuff on ebay, I have an unaccompanied trip to a GC (or maybe more than one) in return. :-) It works for us!

It's cabin fever that's affecting all of us - we're enjoying a few warmish days here and I've been daydreaming about my plant list (and wondering how I'll pay for everything!). Beattie, you should try eBay for plants - I've been very pleased with my plant purchases there, and prices are great - just ordered 5 Tennessee ostrich (or Glade) ferns for $7 and with shipping it works out to only $3 per fern, versus at least $9-$10 from online GCs. Got 3 Acanthus mollis last year for $2.50 each versus $12 online (most plants I like aren't found in GCs here).

think i may have a look at that thanks lauram ~ how do you know they will be in good condition? is that just on reliability of seller as in other goods?
the big garden centre near here runs a garden club which means 5% of all plants all year but at christmas you pay for your tree then you get a token for the same amount to spend in february ~ so effectively the tree is free! im looking forward to spending my money next month!

That's a good incentive scheme your GC runs Sticki.
I've bought seeds from ebay Lauram. Was ripped off first time - got an envelope full of air, but the second was OK.

I was leery at first about purchasing plants on eBay, but I've never been disappointed. I'm just sticking with sellers who are well-rated. Of course, I'm making a list of plants to buy - Solomon's seal, merrybells, a couple of pawpaw trees, more Spigelia, more ferns, maybe some orchids. The list is getting longer and longer, but hopefully my wallet won't become as thin as it has in previous springs! My ferns should be arriving in a couple of days. I hope they're in good shape; the last time I purchased bareroot ferns online (from a large nursery in Tennessee, they didn't have to go far) they were completely dried out and dead. Upon researching the company afterwards I found many similar complaints, but also many happy customers, so go figure.

Thanks all for your kind and sympatheic thoughts at this time of despair.
The pain from the empty walletness now seems to have abated somewhat as OH has agreed to replace the £85 that was her part of the bill.
However, as on previous occassions when this promise of medicinal replenishment has been offered .... i wont hold my breath....
Minus 5 in the greenhouse last night so wont be planting anything just yet....
Catch you all later and i leave you with the thought that our own problems are miniscule when compared to those of the Haitians ... or the Australians .... or the Indians .... or....!!!!!
