Getting there .... very slowly...

Hi all,

This is the first chance i’ve had to blog this year.

Can’t believe how bad the weather has been since my last blog up to now.

I couldn’t really get much done last year due to the incessant rain.

However, just to bring you up to date, here’s a couple of pictures to remind you where we’re at.

We are just coming up to 3 years in the bungalow in June so i don’t reckon i have been too lazy.

Picture 1 – June 2010

Picture 2 – June 2012

Picture 3 – May 2013

So you can see from the photo’s that i have spent the last couple of nice weekends digging out 6 × 2 ft deep holes to erect the pergola over the pond.

Over the pond he says …. 13 ft wide x 32 ft long.

No help this year, had to do it all on my own. This included humping all of the posts, rails and sleepers from the front of the house to the back and then erecting it all.

So currently we have the pergola erected and the 8ft sleepers in place at the rear of the pond so that i can build a slightly raised rockery type bed coming off the back of the waterfall.

Well that’s the theory anyway.

This is where we are at with it the moment – not a pretty site but work in progress never is.

As you can see from the height at the back of the waterfall, there is a lot of soil to shift from the pile at the back of the garden to bring the levels up.

Luckily i never throw any soil or rubbish away so i have built up a pretty good supple of sub soil.

Then i need to order in a couple of tons of top soil to finish the job off so that we have a decent planting surface.

I reckon i should get there by about July/August time.

Here’s hoping that i can fit another blog in then to show you how it looks with all the flowers in full bloom.

Hope you all enjoy the warmer spring weather and look forward to seeing all the hard work and effort you guys and gals put in to carry on making your gardens beautiful.

Kind regards to all
Tony & Margy

A big transformation Tony well done on all your hard work.

You've done extremely well. You are lucky to have a good sized garden with a bungalow! All the ones we look at seem to have pocket handkerchief sized gardens!
We could all do with an improvement in the weather...it seems to be windy all the time these days!

That all looks really good hope we get some nice weather so you and finish your project and enjoy sitting on your patio area . It's wet & very windy here in Wales !

I am very impressed with all your hard work. It is very wet here too. It makes it difficult to do anything in the garden.

Wow you dig a very deep hole every year Tony and it works all the time, I'm impressed with all you have achieved over the years and looking forward to the next set of photo's, it doesn't look like the same garden, to my eyes it seems so much bigger now.
I spied your little helpers in the third pic.......

Thank you all for your very kind comments.
I'm hoping that once the pond garden is completed that we can concentrate on what the garden is really for .....flowers.
I am cheating a bit this week and paying a local gardener to come in and tidy up some of the borders for me as we are running out of time to get fresh seeds and plants in for this year.
I thought that at 65 i would be able to retire .... wrong ....
Catch up with you all later in the year. Hopefully all of the baskets and pots that we just planted will all be in full swing by then.
