What lies beneath?

One week into the project and one large skip full of rubbish cleared…
…and it still looks much the same.
Clearing the undergrowth revealed eight car batteries, nine tractor tyres of varying sizes, more bits of rusty old metal – the list goes on.
Meanwhile, I’ve made a bit of an error of judgement in my vegetable garden (the square bit in the foreground of the big photo). I planted some broad bean seeds back in January. We then had some viciously cold weather and when I went to plant my potatoes and there was no sign of them, I just assumed the weather had got to them and used the same bit of garden for the potatoes (it was easier – it needed less weeding than the rest of it). A few weeks later and I can see I’ve got broad beans growing amongst my potatoes…
I’ve got such a lot to learn…

Well done on what you have done so far! That's a lot of clearing to do! Learning?....all the time! :-))

This sounds surprisingly familiar to what happened to me. I planted potatoes that then got frozen so I planted lettuce, radish and other "salad" veg only to find I had spuds growing through everything!
It's all part of the fun of gardening, finding out how long things take. Good luck with it in the future!

Thank you all for taking an interest in my project and for your lovely comments. Good to know that others have succeeded with similar obstacles! When my arms are aching and my back is hurting I try to think about my orchard underplanted with spring bulbs and the apple crumbles in the autumn!

That's definitely 'thinking positive', Wq. Good for you - and all power to your elbow. :-))

You've done well clearing everything - my house is built on an old school and I even found a complete bag of sand (still it was free just not expecting it under a foot of topsoil!!)
