Discovering new things all the time

One step at a time, we’re getting there in our garden reclamation project.
Firstly, following a recommendation from our next door neighbour, someone who wasn’t concerned about the lack of access and long trek from the garden to the front of our house came and took the scrap metal.
Then, the asbestos guys came and took away the asbestos roof tiles and some of the stuff used in building the old shed/stable thing.
Paul then demolished the shed/stable thing and we had a big fire.
Just as we thought we were getting there, a bit of prodding discovered some more scrap metal and wooden pallets being used as a “foundation” for one of the old sheds. At one point, we thought we would find a bunker in the undergrowth or a “hatch” like in the Lost series (we still haven’t ruled that out). Still, it feels like we’ve come a long way.
No heavy gardening this weekend – I’m running the London marathon tomorrow and taking it nice and easy today, bar a bit of weeding around the vegetable plot. Last week’s frost had scorched the tips of potato plants which had just poked out of the soil, but I earthed them up today and am keeping my fingers crossed.

You must be so pleased - the plot you are left with looks fantastic and if have only burnt wood the ash will be really good for digging into the ground. No doubt it feels a long way off, but you have a nice size plot to play with now and what looks like a good view to borrow from behind. Welldone.

Thank you for your good wishes. I finished the marathon in one piece with the possible exception of a toenail (it's touch and go right now and I'm banned from talking about it with the family). It was warmer than I would have liked and the last eight miles were really tough as I crawled over the line in 5 hours 25 minutes. On the plus side, when I stop hurting I've got all this fitness to tackle the garden!
