Bosherston Lily Ponds

Here is a little diary of a recent visit to Bosherston Lily Ponds not far from where we live. The ponds were created by the Earls Cawdor in the 18th and 19th centuries by blocking three narrow limestone valleys.
Not a Pike in sight but other half, the angler, informed me that it was perfect Pike habitat. Even though the lillies were not in great flower at the time of our visit, it was really interesting to see past the bloom to the underwater element of lily life.
We then walked along the paths until we came to Broad Haven South beach, about 2 miles I would say and our grandaughters had a paddle.
Oh and the dogs had a great time too ! Cracking afternoon out on our doorstep.

I love Bosherston. It's one of my favourite places on the earth, especially when you come to the beach.

I'd say about 70 miles Arlene. It's on the very south coast of Pembrokeshire - to the south of Pembroke town.

~thanks Hywel~
~will have to go next year~here's hoping we have a reasonably early spring next year!
I have a pot of muscari by the front door which are starting to sprout green leaves~if it gets really icy I will have to get them under fleece ~ it's not so much cold as sopping wet!

Thanks for all the lovely comments. Hwyel was spot on - not far from the town of Pembroke. If any of you ever visit there, also try and visit Barafundle Bay near Stackpole for a complete treat. I have seen the lillies in full bloom and it is a sight. Oh how the landed gentry created their 'gardens' then !! Take care all.

I love Barafundle too, and Stack rocks and St Govan's chapel - It's such a wonderful area.
I think if I had to move from here that's the only other area I'd go to.
