Baby Frog

Yesterday I was working on the surround of a small pond in my front garden which was in a sorry state – All higgelty piggelty. It was really hot so I went in for a coffee and too cool down a bit. When I came back this little fellow was sunning himself on a lily pad.
The pond is full of frogs and newts and just two goldfish. Despite having ponds for many years this is the first time I have actually seen a frog sitting on a lily pad.
Just a few photos of things looking good in the garden just now.
This was planted by my father some 30 years ago. 2 years ago it had got really straggly and was not flowering very well so nothing ventured, I cut it back hard. Last year it had a few flowers but now it is back to its former glory.
The Hydrangea above was bought forĀ£1 at an NGS end of season plant sale about 5 years ago. Don’t know what it is called but it is lovely.
Lastly a photo of Gunnera manicata growing on the river bank – looking the best ever it must be 6 ft high and about 8 ft diameter – must have something to do with the very wet winter we had.

I have no pond in my garden but I had a toad on my doorstep today. We looked at each other for quite some time and then he hopped of into the gully. Thank goodness it wasn't the house.
