Plumeria Seed Germination Update

I received more plumeria seeds as well as a cutting last week. I decided to float the plumeria seeds in styrofoam peanuts. Several rooted within a week, and I potted up 3 Tillie Hughes seedlings. One was albino with a little green at the tip. Today There is more green on the albino seedling so it should survive. I’m more comfortable with this method and so far none of the seeds have rotted. I decided to float a few more today. Three of the Celadine seeds have roots on them, but I’m going to wait until the roots get larger before I plant them in potting mix. Its been in the 100s the past couple of days and that’s been helping the seeds germinate faster. Of course I don’t have them in full sun, because I don’t want to have boiled plumeria seeds lol.
I also received a cutting, that I’m trying to root. A member from a Yahoo plumeria group is trying the baggie method and has had great success. I decided I’m going to try it. I got a thick sandwich bag, filled it with 50% potting soil and 50% perlite for good drainage. Then I set the cutting in the bag of potting soil and tied it with a rubberband. I put the bag on a stone patio, where it gets a lot heat. The moisture from the potting soil in the sun is usually enough to help the cutting sprout roots. I’m hoping to see roots in a month or so. The cutting also has to callus over before its placed in a bag, so it doesn’t rot. I’ve actually seen this method on several plumeria and gardening sites. I’ll post an update once more seeds are planted and growing.

I really enjoy plumerias because of the variety of flower color and fragrance. I started out with one plumeria 3 years ago, and then a friend started sending me seeds. I will just have to figure out how I'm going to store over 20 plumerias when they grow larger lol. I hate this time of year because of the heat and rain-free days. Today it made it to 104, and its going to be 104 again tomorrow. Several of my plants are already scorched and its just the beginning of summer. Last year we had 71 days at or above 100 and 2 months without rain. It was horrible, I lost so many plants. I'm ready for Fall and Winter lol.

We get too much rain in Wales, but I think it's better than too little :o)

I wish some of that rain would head this way lol. I have large cracks in the ground around my yard. The clay here is like cement once it dries.
