patio garden

Last summer my husband found a book called square foot gardening and he put together a small garden for me so I could have it raised up on the back patio. I have not had a garden in quite a few years because of arthritis in my knees. It worked out so well! We had basil and jalapeno and cayenne peppers and some tomatoes. It was amazing to me to be able to sit and garden. This winter I had him make 3 more and now my entire back patio is covered in raised planter boxes, with just a small corner left for the grill. I have planted so much stuff and all ready have had many harvests of lettuce and spinach, it is all ready too hot for these here in the southern US, so I replaced them with basil and peppers and beans and eggplant and strawberries. Plus I have set up one box just for herbs, so it has mint and sage and oregano and thyme and lavender in it. It is sooo nice to be able to make mint tea anytime we want. Tea is big around our house, because he is originally from the UK and I lived there as a child many years ago, but I am really a southerner at heart, so hot or iced we go through a lot of tea. Our favorite right now in a green tea called Young Hyson with peppermint added of course. Devine hot or iced.

You're like me with arthritis. Raised beds are briliant. I've made some of my garden like that.
I like herbs. It sounds as if you live in a perfect climate for them.

Hi y'all:
Would love to see any pictures you have of your planters. I also have raised beds which I had made when I moved to this house. ( They are all around the garden though not on a patio ) It is such a joy to be able to sit and garden and be able to get up. I don't have too much of a problem with arthritis but have Asthma which curtails some of my activities. When I get myself organized I will put some photos of my raised beds on my homepage. I think you weather is much warmer than ours ( On the West coast of BC Canada ) Barb

Guess I'm just stuck in my ways...I like Jasmine Green..as you say "hot or iced"... lol.
That is a good book: "Square foot Gardening"...I've had my copy a couple of decades... and of all parts to start with OA, I have it starting in my hands! By next year I will be thinking seriously about container gardening..
Agree with you on the herbal tea... nothing like fresh ...
Enjoying your blogs..

Seen your pics Gen,
You have some great crops. I am having a BIG problem with pests this year, everything seems to be chewed upon. Eggplants (Aubergine) and peppers just don't seem to be setting fruit.
How are your crops doing? Hope you have good weather this year!
