A coat of many colours - acers in autumn.

Well, I looked at the acers in Wisley on sunday and noticed that many in the woodland garden had already started to turn colour. None in my garden had done the same – well, blow me down, within 24 hours my “Sazanami” and "Vitifolium (in pots) have done the same. Monday I noticed the mere hint of it and now, wednesday, viti is in full autumnal garb and saza is just going a gorgeous deep red from the top down. The acers planted in the ground seem to be hanging on to the hope that it is still summer…despite some quite chilly nights.

I will go to Wisley again soon as there is an amazing Lime tree that turns butter yellow – it had just started – and if I wait til the Liquidamber turns (around Bonfire night) the Lime will already be naked.

Have been lucky with the weather for gardening so far – Monday was fantastic . Spent 2 hours at Ann’s pruning roses and disentangling them from a honeysuckle and clematis. Everything received a brutal chop! The sun was glorious and we sat on the patio for a cuppa afterwards. Yesterday was pants weather (went shopping with Fran….bad, bad – ate lunch and spent money) . Today, weather lovely this am, went to Jenny P and did a load of brutal chopping there too…sadly, her lovely old “Rambling Rector” rose has finally turned up his toes and snuffed it. Maybe Honey Fungus ?

The sky is now BLACK and the wind is blowing a gale (literally) so I feel lucky to have got off lightly. Wish I could snuggle down in front of TV and watch a film but too many things to do..

Wisley sounds wonderful. I may get up there at the end of the month. Trees are turning gradually here too, but the best is yet to come.
