This will be a very short blog, after weeks of severe frost which has finished off, some of our more tender plants, it is now pouring with rain, so what the frost did not get, the rain will, as the garden is sopping wet…..it has been raining now for several days, usually at night, but very heavy with it.
We have managed to finish the decking and pergola (in between showers, and even painted it….I think there is still some remaining paint left on it, it can stop now the water butts are full!!

Strange weather here! Tuesday was a wonderfully mild day with a warm breeze; Wednesday we woke up to 2" of snow which disappeared by mid afternoon; yesterday was colder but bright and we were able to warm up by digging and getting loads more rocks out of the ground, then it rained all night! I'm taking a short trip to Britain soon and have no idea what to pack - umbrella? T-shirts? Wellie-boots? Bikini?

I hope the rain doesn't do too much damage for you. I don't think it's as bad as frost myself. At least it feels milder when it rains.

to be honest don't mind the rain, but we have had it now all week with the exception of 1 day, which happened to be the day i was working. typical, it has been quite mild, although we did have boulder size hale the other day. i just want to get going on the digging of new bed, but can't as ground is far to wet, like a mud bath out there. still i was moaning a few weeks ago because we had'nt had any rain for ages, it seems that we get one extreme or the other. but at least the plants are getting a good drink.

Heavy rain here again during the night and once or twice this morning (while I was out shopping!). The front garden looks like a swamp and I am concerned about a couple of plants not being able to survive being waterlogged so long. I will try to dig them out and move them to a dryer spot as soon as I can but it may be too late. If I had to vote between rain and frost, frost would get my vote but really all I want now is some warm sunshine!

Hi all, rained all night again, and today it is cold but bright....are things on the up I wonder?
Nariz as Gilli says take em all, you never know whats around the corner.Amy good luck with the pergola, you could start a new trend, indoor pergolas if you cant get it out!!

Fortunately, rain at night here - but very heavy. We've had strong winds as well. The stream is up and all the fields around are like mud-baths. Henry and I come back from walks covered in mud! I do prefer it to the frost, though, and yes- I have lost a lot of plants.

Haven't started to check on what I've lost yet. But amazingly, the banksia survived -8C without turning a hair.

Raining here overnight and this morning too. Glad I moved some plants yesterday. As it was so wet I decided to go to the cinema. Felt rather guilty about doing that at 11.30am, but as it was such a good film I soon got over it! When I came out it was sunny, but very cold, so took Sophie for a quick walk on the common and admired some new snowdrops in the front garden.
What's a Banksia Andrew? Sounds exotic.

Rain, rain, frost, rain, rain, wind, rain, rain, sun, cloud, rain, and you've guessed it.,......rain. Working full time is a nightmare, every time I have a moment free I think 'great, time for some gardening', but NO! Raining again.
I'm getting desparate to get out there. I sorted all my seeds out last Saturday, ready to get going, but....more rain and gale force winds......come on sky, let us gardeners have some fun now, it's our turn! The weekends fly by with shopping and housework there's not alot of time to get out there so every moment for gardening is precious to us green gods and godesses....please, just give us all a weekend free of rain dear Lord and let us make the planet pretty!

I am with you on that Greenfingers (let us make the planet pretty) heavy frost last night but dry Sat, but guess what more rain expected.........and here it comes right on time!! drat

It could be worse DD. At least your water butts are full and you are ready to go when the rain stops.
Still snow here.
