Insects

I am wondering if anyone can help me with this one. I have a swarm of small gnat like but not sure if they are as they do not even die in the snow!!! and they are smaller, but definitely black.
They usually swarm around the top part of my garden around the large fir tree, but when it rains they tend to swarm around most of it.
What can be done about this problem? is there a certain plant that encourages them?

Don't worry ~ if someone suggests what they might be, you can then look up those on the internet and see if they match your garden swarms. :o)

Yes I was trying to look earlier so if I had an actual name then I can follow the lead

are they a type of midge? we get swarms of them even in the winter. They are not the viscous ones like they get in scotland thankfully. in the summer the bats have a feast.

yeah that's exactly what they are like but I've only got them over the last year, and I was wondering why.

Wagger and Toto are both good at identifying wildlife and insects.
I hope one of them can help you. :o)
