Drive Side Beginnings

Between the Drive up the middle of the garden and the road outside is a piece of very shady tree lined piece of land. It is very shady and the soil is very stony and full of roots.
We decided to clear some of the poorer shrubs out.

The conifer was in very poor condition and there were lots of self sown tree seedlings.

I began by clearing out the weeds.

There was a big tree stump. It collapsed as I weeded.

Digging it out was quite easy as all the roots were rotten,

Planted a Magnolia lilacifolia rubra.

well you are certainly getting a good work out. that magnolia will be beautiful year on year. Do you plan to underplant with bulbs and cyclamen for spring and autumn?

Have to agree with Eileen, that’s a real task you've undertaken. Like Eileen asked, are you planning on any under planting, Owdboggy?

The area there has been further developed since then and there are bulbs in it. More photos to follow. Trying to do it in the order in which we did the work.
