Old Heather bed.

Along the side of the Bungalow was a narrow bed with very overgrown Heathers. They were too far gone to bring back to the correct size and off the ‘grass’. They were also full of couch grass and other deep rooted weeds. We decided to remove them altogether.

There was a very poor Hydrangea on the end of the bed.

The Hydrangea was dug out, with some difficulty. the roots had gone under the path.

Hard work with the loppers and a saw.

I took the remains of the Heathers to the local re-cycling yard.

Digging out the roots was not too hard as they are fairly shallow rooting plants.

Dug over and some humus added.

Plants of various kinds put in.

Not happy with the edge so I cut back more of the ‘grass’ to make a more pleasing and useful shape to the bed.

The crazy paving path alongside the Bungalow looks a lot better too.
