Walking in the cold

The weather in Houston is a little crazy…at the beginning of this week temperatures were nearing 80 F (27 C) and it definitely felt like summer was here yet by midweek temperatures had plummeted and today it did not rise above 46 F (8 C)!! It was rainy and cold and windy…yet I felt like going outside…taking a walk…it reminds me of autumn weather in Central Virginia, or very early spring…when I lived in Charlottesville I would go and take very long walks, just looking at the old houses and the flowers just beginning to bloom…the sky here was dark and overcast, heavy with the promise of more rain as I walked out…I had to come back for gloves and a scarf as I had underestimated the wind! which is really what made it so cold…I went to Wabash, my neighborhood garden center down on Washington Avenue, and saw the geraniums – they had the one I have – Americana Violet and also an Americana Pink, but I want another geranium that is not pink or red…I’m not sure what I want (the ones at Bayou Bend!! =) ) but I didn’t find it today…I admired the bunnies – they had put plastic curtains down so the bunnies wouldn’t get too cold…and then left, walking inthe direction of Memorial Park and passing through Camp Logan. I decided to stop by the church and buy fried catfish for dinner (they have a Lenten fish fry) though the biggest draw were the hushpuppies…I then walked through Crestwood, ending up back at my apartment building…I wish I had had my camera but I have maxed out my SIM card…the plants looked different, wet and glistening like jewels, their colors heightened by the dark sky and wet earth the color of chocolate…the rain has cleared the pollen and dust and God knows what other toxins the refinaries might have spewed into the air…and I felt renewed, awake and yes, cooold but happy cold!

Sounds like a lovely walk Raquel. Are you anywhere near Champions West? My Godmother lives there. I've never been to Houston although one day I would like to visit.
