Tree Lillies, veg borders, Strawberries and All

Here’s an update on all things growing here and its frantic!. Paul has been real busy constructing my framed raised borders and they are coming on a treat, those cabbage whites are not going to demolish my brassicas and sprouts this year! We couldnt afford the posh aluminium fruit n veg cages so we improvised and Im sure they will do a good job.

We have three raised borders all together two of them are netted, one more to go (they are 20 × 15 each, I know raised borders are generally smaller for easy reach, it was cheaper to do this way and I use a plank to walk inbetween the rows for hoeing. The first border above has garlic, beetroot, Brussels, broad beans and my Rosemary bush. I sew a row of giant flat leafed parsley last weekend in front of the broadbeans. I mark up my rows with canes.

I have Webbs Lettuce and courgettes in a second border (this one will be netted this weekend) and in the third border I have Carrots, Calabrese, Swiss Chard and parsnips on the go.

On one side of my greenhouse I planted nine Tree Lillie bulbs (from QVC) these photos were taken last weekend and they are now about 8" tall. I use old hanging baskets to protect young bulbs and plants from damage. I also grow my strawberries in window boxes and large pots, I find it easier to manage and they stay clean, I will be using some spare netting to protect them from the birds.

Everything is starting to bloom in our back garden and my borders leading up to the potting shed. Well I could go on as there is so much going on as Im sure you are all too familiar with. So I take my novice cap off and give you a bow until next time :-)) Happy gardening
