Getting started!

Well, we’ve got our allotment! (Yayy!)
It’s a semi plot but it’s still a good size!
Our plot is a mess, but hey it’s more fun that way! We love big projects :D
Got lots of weeds to gut out, might surprise ourselves in a week or 2!
Been online shopping for gardening stuff in the last few days… may have gone a bit mad (slaps wrist).
Got a shed which will be here in 2 weeks and everything else should be here by then!
I’m looking forward to assembling it, we love DIY jobs!
Best time of year to get an allotment in my opinion, this way we have all summer to gut it out, tidy and doll it up in time for planing some winter veggies!
As we are newbies, any advice will be gladly taken in.
Looking forward to getting started! :D

Balcony & Joanella have posted some excellent blogs re. their plots ... we have recently taken on a very neglected & overgrown plot ... Bindweed & Docks were the main thugs but we have cleared about two-thirds of it and managed to plant Peas/Runner Beans/Sweetcorn/Parsnips. Steady & slow is the way to go with an overun plot . . . . .

Good luck with your allotment. I did have an allotment for more than 10 years. One advice. Plenty of well rotten stable manure. This is the remedy for a success. And one warning. Be prepared for a very hard work. Most people giving it away after a year or so especially in the autumn when all nice things come to an end and it is only dig and clear up ahead. I am sure you will enjoy it for many years to come. Worse enemy from my experience is couch grass. I hope you don't have it in your blot.

That's great stuff, thankyou!
Hope to get some photos up soon, the place is a mess as we haven't started yet, but it'll be good to have "before" pictures! :)
We have lavender and some cabbages planted, although the pigeons have destroyed them, we'll get some netting down and try to revive them!
