The last six years - Part 5

I wanted to grow strawberries in containers. First I tried the half barrel. For some reason I found that I had to fight off ants all the time. They wanted to make their home in the barrel.
Next I invested in a strawberry pot. Not much success the first year. Next year I inserted pipes reaching down to the roots of the plants, watered carefully and supplied nutrients. The plants looked good, there were a few plump strawberries but mostly small unenthusiastic ones.
So now, I have this! :)

That's exactly what I had in mind for my strawberry planters. I will be planting my strawberry pots with alpines this weekend. I think it is just to dry for strawberries in there. Even alpine strawberries didn't do well there...

That's a great way to use a strawberry pot, looks lovely like that!
I sometimes have ant trouble too, they love to make their nests in the loose warm compost that we have in pots. It can be a shock sometimes to tip a plant out of a pot to repot it and find it swarming with hundreds of ants!
