The last six years Part-4

We made three raised vegetable beds at the far end. For two years I grew some really lovely beans, cauliflowers, spinach, salad greens…. I had absolutely no idea home grown onions could be so different from supermarket ones.
But soon, the roots of the tree started growing upwards into the first raised bed. The tree got big and the bed was mostly in shade.
A lovely gooseberry bush and a raspberry patch took over the third raised bed – my mistake.
Only the middle one was of any use for growing vegetables.
Last year I decided to get rid of the raised beds and make another border. It now has the espalier apple tree, I have moved the well grown gooseberry bush into the border, a few raspberry stalks have come up, and near the tree I have just planted a few shade loving plants – Fatsia, a few ferns, hostas, heuchera and a Tricyrtis -this one is new to me and am looking forward to the flowers. More planting is needed.

I'm enjoying this series of blogs, keep them coming!:)
I've never been a fan of growing veg, preferring flowers myself, but I know a lot of people gain great satisfaction from 'growing their own' It sounds like your garden is quite typical in that it starts out one way then develops as the years pass, and that's all part of the fun!
