reading your blogs and questions has given me so much pleasure these last few months that I thought I would write a blog to say thank you.I don’t have a garden at the moment and will be moving into a small bungalow next month, which doesn’t have a garden either, but has a very small graveled area on the north side so I will be able to have a few pots, many thanks again Susan

Susan I'm sure your little gravelled area will be transformed once you get going. Good luck with it :)

hello Susan..sometimes pots on gravel can be a blessing..no slugs or nasties to attack your plants,and good drainage..and if it is north facing,and open to the east,it should still get some morning sun,and evening from the west..lots of choice,I think..I have to move some of mine,to a north facing position,if we go away,or a very hot summer,like the one we have just had..it can be an advantage at times..happy gardening,:o)

Hi Susan,
And a big welcome to the forum,
I myself when a kid didnt have a garden infact i lived in a street back to back housing and no sign of gardens for miles,
The only grass area we had was the railway bankment and it was the norm for mum's to tell the kids to go and play on the railway "not that they wanted us to get killed;
The track for the old steam train was well down this grassed area,
But look at me for one! "Now"

im gardening mad and now live in the countryside, so dont worry about not having a garden,
troughs/hanging baskets etc are a good way of having colour in your yard.

Ive even seen and old toilet outside the front of one house full of flowers,
So idea's are always welcome.

Welcome from me too Aquilegia, theres lots of ways to transform even the smallest of space so you'll have lots to look forward to when you are in your bungalow, in the meantime enjoy browsing the pages, have you looked through the A-Z at the bottom of the page, you'll find all sorts of ideas there, the main thing is to be happy and enjoy it.

thank you all for your warm welcome, a year ago I had a large south facing garden and I miss it very much, though it was getting to much near the end due to bad health, but now a new adventure starts for me,and am looking forward to it very much, when I miss my old garden I just come on GOY and read all about your gardens and what your doing in them, without getting wet . Im a bit like the mistletoe and have the best of both worlds without the work Susan

Ah, Susan I'm sorry you've had to leave your lovely garden. I have just recently moved To a house with a south facing garden! My previous garden was all gravel at the front, with pots! It was almost completely maintenance free, and very pretty, so you can enjoy your new plot once you get it organised. :)
