Summer is fading

My small garden has been so colourful this year though looking quite congested. Yesterday I cut back the pinks which had spread, as they do. Now I have quite a big gap but I’ve placed a couple of pots of geraniums as a temporary measure. After this morning’s prolonged drizzle though the little clump of pinks I left has, I’m sure, already doubled in size.

Jackmannii next door to the Warm Welcome rose looked lovely but it has now done its stuff and the rose is taking a breather. The Forever Friends clematis has, despite my asking it not to, taken over the young Amelanchier. I don’t have the heart to cut if off. Next year I’ll put trellis on the fence.

Under the now sad looking Ceanothus tree the pink clematis is slowing down but it looked wonderful earlier on. Now the Phlox are showing off in various parts of the garden and smell wonderful. I’m hoping the perennial geraniums will make a colourful return too.

The bumblebees love Eryngiums, sometimes there are four to one flower head. The plant is very spiteful though and strong gloves are required.

But, there are signs of autumn appearing. I hope it doesn’t come too soon.
