Magnolia update

A lot of you will remember the magnolia seed pod late last year and the pic of eight seedling at a cotyledon stage a couple of months back,they are now all potted just one is lagging a bit.Followed by pictures of the same tree deciding to flower for a second time.Despair that I will have any flowers next spring.

Don't worry Brian. This is normal for magnolias, rhododendrons and azaleas. They produce an odd flowers in summer. Like your little 'nursery':)

Kasy its not actually this one that worries me, But Magnolia Soulangeana in its common form I posted pictures a couple of weeks ago it then had flowers running into the hundreds on it,as you say the odd few are normal but looking at it now there are hardly any buds left so it's going to have to get a move on to produce another lot.
The nursery area if put together would cover an area about 30ft x 2ft about 10 mtrs x .75mtr plus two glass houses all packed with plants,to many really

I checked the picture - it is really strange. Hope it will decide to produce new buds this year.
I keep propagating plants as well - soon will run out of space - as my garden is only a tiny terraced one..
Are you going to sell your plants you've propagated?

Kasy i used sell the Primuas I grew at shows but these days find more pleasure in giving them to like minded people.Did think about selling a few on Ebay at one time but not bothered up to now.

Amy spotted another of the little Ferns in a pic posted by Karen (Scotland) yesterday showing her painted Fern its along side it.
As for the Magnolias they can be a bit tricky the first year when they loose there leaves,have had problems with some Acer seedlings as well some fail to restart in the spring ,need to google it.

I have enough problems finding room for all the smaller plants I grow from seed Brian ,I would have to be like you and give them away , I always take more rose cuttings and I like to take some Clematis cuttings as well ,now is the right time of the year it's my next job !

Amy. I intend to raid Valadels climbing rose in the next couple of days may have to do that in the pouring rain as well
