This tree is having a fantastic year, flowered beautifully in the spring (a seed pod from then is in the last picture) now flowering quite profusely again,Quite large and grows horizontal about 20 feet in length x 10 feet high, another one that was given plenty of space more by luck than judgment ,seems to be enjoying the rain although it has damaged some of the blooms, and yes I have germinated the seed but failed to get them through the first winter.Added pic from 2017 shows the seed in October ready to fall.

Honestly Bria...your garden is a Botanical treasure. What a stunning flower, and the horizontal habit is lovely! Ideal for a den. :)

Isn't that an amazing seed pod! You must have lots of room to be able to have three large magnolias Brian! I thought my Stellata was taking lot of room, haha. YOu grden must look wonderful when they are all in flower.

Seaburngirl never seen a seed pod on Susan ,I think it is a Hybrid which may account for it not having any.

Your garden has so many interesting plants. Would have to have a walled garden or solarium to grow that tulip tree though. In my last town (at about 45 degrees N. Lat.) there was a huge tulip tree...had to be 40 ft. tall, growing in a backyard of an old house not far from the St. Lawrence Seaway.. there were also cyclamen naturalized in that yard too... it must have been a "pocket" situation as winters were seriously cold there. I know there are lots of var. of tulip tree... it had yellow flowers, as I recall.

Lori i love some of the good yellow Magnolias have purchased two in the past but neither survived, they were both grafted but did not think the rootstock was as good as it should have been one was potted the other bare root, not sure if I will ever try another one.

I understand that, Brian... there comes a time when we face that decision. Just out of curiosity what was the rootstock?
