Sunbird and Cycas revoluta

Yet another extraordinarily pleasant early spring morning here in north Queensland. Temp. range during the day was 23-29 deg C, and there appeared to be a bit of smoke hanging around the ranges very early this morning.
It’s likely there’s a bush fire raging somewhere in the ranges. That’s a common event during our winter/early spring months.
The adorable female Olive-backed Sunbird seems happy with her nest and is now sitting in there preparing to lay her eggs. Fingers crossed she’s successful and does not abandon the nest as so often happens!
On another note, there are new leaves appearing on top of the thick stems of two of the Cycas revolutas growing out in the courtyard garden.
The characteristic feather-shaped leaves grow in a circular pattern, forming a large rosette at the top of the stem. The new leaves are emerging as light green shoots and getting taller every day.

Sounds so similar to us Klahanie, but with a swap in seasons. Our dry season, which coincides with our end of Autum / Winter / early Spring is when bushfires are commonplace. Then when the rain starts to return, usually in mid-spring, that puts an end to the bushfires.
Thankfully, the majority of bushfires around here don't impact the human population, as they're usually raging a fair way away from the suburbs.
I have a few Cycads growing outdoors now as the mature specimens which were here when we moved in have had a few pups. Those pups are now maturing.

The Cycas looks very attractive..does it need space BB ?

Yes definitely needs space Meadowland. My two mature specimens are around 2 metres tall and almost as wide.

I loved reading your blog Bushberries. We have lots of forest fires here on Vancouver Island (Canada) We are heading towards rainy winter season and it will eventually kill most of them.
We can only grow Cycas indoors and they are very hard to find and quite expensive.We used to winter in Mexico and they were everywhere. I found them to be very elegant plants.
