Sunbird Bath and Spying A Spider

Clear, big blue skies continue and the high today is yet again 33 deg C. We did receive a light shower of rain in the early hours of this morning, but it didn’t last long.
While wandering, I noticed a little Olive-backed Sunbird seemingly trying to have a bath amongst the raindrops on the leaves of a large Philodendron!
The little one was trying very hard to roll around in the drops and get wet. It was a joy to watch.
There was also a teeny tiny White Crab Spider that I spied just sitting on a Petrea volubilis flower. At first it was hard to spot as the centre of the flower is actually white, but as I got closer I could discern it was something else in the middle of that flower!
Thomisus spectabilis is commonly known as the Australian Crab Spider. They don’t have webs so typically hide on flowers where they wait to ambush insects seeking nectar.
My oldest Caladium has finally started opening its large leaves. It has been in the ground for over 20 years and this year it has taken its time rising from dormancy for some reason. It’s an old variety but a truly stunning one.
I’m also a fan of this lovely little Caladium. It’s a new addition and has settled into its spot very well.
I’m enjoying the beauty of the flowers on my Begonia rex. There are more and more appearing every week.
The clump of Begonia semperflorens is flowering quite profusely at the moment.
I’ve also added some Erigeron to one of my garden beds. I’ve grown it many times in previous years but it’s never really settled in. I’m trying it in one more spot and we’ll see how it goes!

We are very blessed in our little corner of the world here as we get to see an amazing variety of wildlife. There's always something to spot! Right now I wish I could share some of our warmth. Our horrid summertime is just around the corner now.

your cute sunbirds are behaving as our hummingbirds. They are also bathing in wet leaves.
How wonderful that you can grow Caladium outdoors. I am jealous.
Good luck with your Erigeron daisies.

Thanks Rose and Klahanie.
Klahanie the sunbirds are similar in size and form to your hummingbirds, that's true. So far my Erigeron is powering on.

I am fascinated by your wildlife, Bernie. The sunbird is a little beauty.
You have some quite lovely plants and it's great to see some colour when our gardens are dying back and rather soggy and grey! Makes me feel quite warm. 😁
