JUST SOMETHING TO MAKE YOU SMILE
After just having a new rockery put together. I spent a week or two getting plants to dot about, and it was looking very nice or would do when the plants got established and grew a little bigger.
I was having a few days away with a friend and told my husband to keep the new plants well watered especialy if the weather was dry. As it happened we had a very hot week and speaking to my Husband every evening he would proudly announce he had watered the Garden and new rockery and also did a little weeding for me, which was a bit unusual as he isn’t a gardner, but wanted to show he had made an effort.
Looking forwad to getting home and seeing the new rockery, I glared with disbelief ,YOU GUEESED IT, half my plants had gone . My Husband proudly said hadn’t he done a good job of keeping the rockery tidy, he had taken most of the plants out of the rockery thinking they were weeds, so had to replant them all again, but made him pay for them all. He hasn’t done any weeding in the garden since.
I laugh at it now but at the time it certainly wasn’t funny. We offten bring the subject up after dinner to our guests that haven’t heard the story. I will never let him live it down.

Lol my dad done exactly the same to my mums garden once, she had slipped disc s he offered to do the gardening with doing the same she never let him near it again pulled all the flowers out and left the weeds in. At least you hubby was showing good will and thats what counts. lol of making him repay, he will remember in future a weed from a plant I m sure.

I would never let anyone look after my garden lol. Weeds and cultivated plants look the same to lots of people, and they think watering means dribble a few drops of water on the surface of the soil - I'll do it myself thank you lol.......
I'm glad he got some new plants for you though. Maybe it might get him interested in gardening . Or maybe not lol - it's best to get on with it on own, without anyone hindering you :o)

Couldn't agree more, Hywel.

Oh! dear had to chuckle though as I too have had an over enthusiastic "helper" husband who denies taking up several of my perrenials just coming through tthe soil in readiness to transform themselves. I didn't get replacements of course because, "it wasn't me"! I do hope your rockery is now "helper" free and flourishing.

Why is it always the hubbys that do this, mine is just the same, i could scream, and they all seem to do it as a surprise for us don't they ?.Last year i had a whole border of lovely sweet williams till he pulled every one up thinking they were weeds or so he said, I give up they didn't even get chance to flower.

It isn't always 'hubbies' !
This site is fast becoming the moan and groan sosciety. I haven't been on since July. I get fed up with all the moaners on here .

I don't think any one is moaning Hywel,we are just saying how it is in a very light hearted way. :0))

I agree Tulsalady. Don't take it too seriously Hywel. Cranberry's opening line for this blog said "Something to make you smile". How are you, anyway Hywel. Long time no see! I have not been on very often myself lately. I will need to catch up on what's going on.

It certainly makes me smile :0))-- wish mine would make the same mistake as Heron---- and do the housework--- I promise I would Never complain!!!
If you want a smile read some of jasons stories about Derek who sadly passed away , the last one about the boat trip is priceless!!
Its helping him I think to tell us.

Oh! Hywel. I am in awe of my husband who is so very clever at DIY and helps me loads making "things" for the garden to help me. I hope I have redressed the balance now and you won't think too badly of us ladies!!!

It's all in fun Hywel, we all know men are very useful to have around, they just need to be kept on a lead when out in the garden - well mine does anyway! I'm very grateful for all the heavy stuff he does, just as long as I'm supervising it! LOL

Ahem - I'm not on a lead Lily2

As I know of a Garden Club where a couple of ladies stole a plant from a garden on one of their outings, perhaps female garden visitors should be on a lead? What do you think?

Strange people you know Andrew. Did they have a getaway car or did they join the others on the bus? Why could they not have bought it like decent gardeners would do? Never mind the lead, just ban them from the club.

Please Don't get me wrong Gentlmen, I certainly wasn't meaning men are poor gardners, on the contary i've had very good advice from lots on this site and all turned out to be right advice, it's just that my husband is better on the golf course than in the garden, which is ok by me. He does all the heavy stuff and i am eternaly grateful for that.........................Bless him.

Ah yes Andrew but you have well behaved gardeners feet which are connected to your brain and treat plants with due respect!
