to day i have made jam for the 1st time ever . the smell in my house is so nice and i carnt wait to have sum on my toast in the morning. just up the rd from my cottage we have sevral damson trees ,every 1 helps themselfs ,so i thort i wud to . found a great resipe on web. and had a go. its so easy. dont know why i not dun it before lol. have tasted it from the mixing spone like you do and its lovely. anyway this is the recipe.
4lb damsons
4lbs suger, normal.
1/4 pint of water
i put a cap full of lemon juice in mine ,but u dont have to as damsons are full of pectin.
boil damsons wth water(
and lemon if wanted)
sqish damson to get stones out. and pik out,( i put mine in a collinder and pushed it thro wth wooden spoon. ) you get a nice clear jam that way.
add suger and bring to boil ,they said 10 mins but i found u need a bit longer. you need to scuoop the scum off.
test 4 setting by droping a little on a plate and letting it cool. . sterilze ur jars. i did mine in micro. wth water in them.
put a metal spoon in the jar to stop jars breaking. poor jame in jars while hot and seal , let cool and away u go. hope you enjoy. its dead easy . mines great. pic to follow. u can freeze left over damsons. i googled the rescipe on web . theres loads of em. let me know how it go,s lol christina xx ;0))))

That's great, Christina! I'm going to have a go at making my own jam during this week, for 1st time just like you!
I've brought home loads of yellow plums from the allotment but there are only so many you can eat! I've frozen some, given some away & watched while others rot on the ground under the trees! :-( It seems such a shame to see fruit go to waste like that!
Like the apple tree our shed is under. Loads of apples have fallen off it & are rotting on the ground around the shed so I've started to pick up some of the biggest & least damaged to bring home. Only today I brought home 1.250kg. Trouble is that they are cookers & not dessert apples & Gerry says they are very late ripeners.

We made some jam a few weeks ago Cristina, my daughter picked the fruit from a nearby farm, we had to pay for it though. We made 2 lbs of blackcurrant and 2 lbs of blackberry. Our daughter was fed up of bending and picking the blackcurrants so she changed to picking the blackberries that is why we had both. They taste very nice though much better than what you buy in a shop, probably due to there being a higher percentage of fruit in it ;-)

I made some plum jam last week and it was the first time ever for me. we have a plum tree which had a very large yeild this year, we have given lots away and also eaten loads ourself, but there is only so much you can eat, so I made jam, It was like yours, lovely and tasty, so now I will use your recipe Cristina, buy some Damsons and Hey Ho and away I go. No free damsons here,so I might move by you.

your wellcome hun hope ur jam is nice too. u cud plant a damson tree lol . i think that snow had something to do wth the high yeilds dont you. every 1 saying the same .i need more jars lol. do you think u can use tupperware .

I did make some plum jam the other day but I used too much water! After leaving it for a day I put it back in the saucepan & heated it up for the best part of an hour to evaporate the water. I seem to have done it well because now the jam is a lot firmer. I must get round to trying out my cooking now!

The jar is going down much faster than I thought it would & I'm the only one eating it! I have make a few sandwiches & had it on toast a couple of times but being so thick it's very difficult to spread out! It goes on thicker than I would normally like.
