Another Day Another Weed

Another visit to the garden today, we have almost finished getting rid of the weeds, just a row of spuds to hand weed and we can move on to something else.

I watered and fed the veg we put in 2 weeks ago, the lettuce we sowed has disappeared, not sure if its the birds or the rain, however I have now sown some in the greenhouse, I’ll plant them out once they are big enough to handle.

Leeks that had rust are no more, bed is now ready for the rhubarb and comfrey which will be transplanted shortly.

I hand weeded a row of beetroot we unearthed at our last visit, OH carried on weeding the spuds……we have 7 rows of spuds, what sort we do not know, but I guess eventually we will find out.

I cut a cauliflower that looked as if it might blow, dug out 2 lettuces that had bolted

OH forgot his hat so wrapped a towel round his head to keep the sun off!!

No weeds in the potato patch now!!

We just have a bit of clearing up to do on Thursday then we can move on to tackle another job. We need to sort out the cold frames, clear the broken glass and again weeding, then sorting out the lids for the frames.

After this week, I think we may only need to go for 2 hours twice a week rather than the 31/2 – 4 hours we have been staying for over the last 3 weeks. We also need to sort out the fruit cage, there are quite a few weekds in there too; we also need to replace a section of netting that was torn off in the winter storms. There are some raspberries developing on the tops of the new growth, I think we are going to cut themn all down to about 1ft above ground and let them develop next year and tie them in as they grow.
