"Pottering" on my Birthday

Had today off work for my birthday, and next couple of days, so thought I would do a little in my favourite place :-)

Main reason was to pot on a Japanese maple Acer shirasawanum Moonrise that needed going in a new pot which we got this weekend, we did buy the same pot in the smaller size when we were in Weymouth in July but found it was a bit too small, and managed to find the next size up locally of the same pot, not cheap though are they, £32.00 eeek.

Also treated myself to a dahlia ‘no name’ for a bit more colour. Have not had much success with the last couple of dahlias I have bought due to slugs but did have Bishop of Llandaff the one year that did well.

A few other things in flower today, Rudbeckia Deemii, doesn’t disappoint, I have split this a couple of times for family and friends.

Miscanthus Ferner Osten always seems to do well reminded me of sparklers, and love my Aster Violetta just starting to flower.

Aster Monch seems to be doing better after a couple of years, not sure about it though it is a nice colour.

My mom grew these zinnias, she gave me 6 but I did lose a couple in the heat before I got 4 them in the ground, at least they have flowered. Hydrangea quercifolia Little Honey in the background, has done quite well this year, looking forward to that getting bigger, but apparently slow growing.

Then finally, the Philadelphus Belle Etoile has decided to give me a flower, have never known that flower again before.

Thank you for looking in, ps I am all the 5’s 55 so feels a bit of a milestone! :-))

Happy belated birthday, D'lily. It's very satisfying getting the odd jobs done, isn't it? I agree, the price of ceramic pots is exceptionally high and it comes as a shock when you need to buy one! I know what you mean about dahlias, mine have been worse than useless this year and most have ended up on the compost heap. I was tempted by some magenta half-price ones when we went to the GC on Sunday, but resisted temptation for once!

Happy belated birthday Jane! Hope you enjoyed your day, sounds like you've been relishing a lot of it in the garden!
I do love an acer..this one's a beauty you have - agree, pots are pretty expensive aren't they!
You've a lot of pretty colours still blooming too.
OH goes out on slug patrol every night with his little torch...Eve is his deputy! They send the slugs soaring over the bund hill!

Very nice Daylily. I've given up Dahlias altogether - the fight with slugs just didn't seem to be worth it. Yours is a beauty and well worth fighting for! Your Rudbekias are making me a bit wistful. I had a row of them up by the patio for years and suddenly they a gone. I thing the chap who sometimes helps in the garden must have thought they were weeds or something, or perhaps he just didn't know they were there.
A note to you ladies who are mourning your great age - I am 82 and still going (not very) strong. Make the most of it while you can! Happy growing in the coming year Daylilly!

Happy Belated Birthday Greetings Daylily...Your have some lovely plants and all look colourful and healthy, its good to see all the autumn flowers doing well after the scorching dry weather we had for so many weeks, I'm pleased you took a few days to enjoy your birthday and time in the garden... The price of larger pots for our acers is heartstopping, especially when you've had one split in half during the winter, I've cheated with mine and used black dustbins which were going spare, hubby used his saw and cut them down by a third for me...Lovely blog and photo's...
