About me

I have a 100ft x 40ft garden, south facing on a slope. We are surrounded by open Cambridgeshire farmland so it gets pretty windy.
When we took over this garden in 2004 it had nothing in it apart from a shed and a large cherry tree at the bottom of the garden. The grass was (and still is) appalling, and it slopes pretty steeply away from the house and is fairly flat by the time it gets to the cherry tree.
We have divided the garden into three, and the middle section is what we are concentrating on in terms of making it look nice with flowers and shrubs. The bottom half is being given over this year to hens and raised vegetable beds, and the top is a very large decked area which was nothing but rubble when we moved in.
I have to say sometimes it all seems very daunting. When you have very little by way of established large shrubs there is no structure, which is what we are trying to give the garden. So we have planted a couple of small trees and a couple of evergreen shrubs, plus lots of flowers from seed.
