Wartime Gardening
6 comments
Hi,
I have just found this site so i thought l should tell you a little about myself. I have a large-ish garden up on the coast of Brittany and a big part of that is taken up with the production of organic vegetables.
This year l have decided to garden following the advice given by the government during the Second World War and the Dig for Victory campaign as well as using the books by Mr Middleton ‘Digging for Victory’ and ‘Dig on for Victory’. I have started a blog and would really appreciate if anyone could pass on their memories from of the Dig for Victory campaign or have been passed on some old garden advice from the ‘old boys’ of gardening. Thank you.

welcome to GoY.
My mum cried when her dad dug up her flowers to plant potatoes during the dfv campaign. One of the first treats after the war was to re-plant a rose bush that had been moved into a poor spot.
