Violets

i love violets,but am a violet killer.Either the leaves turn brown or are limp and squishy.I think it is a watering problem.Not sure how to fix it.
Any ideas out there?

The tip I need is how to stop them seeding everywhere. I guess you'll be talking abut the big scented ones - ours are the little wild dog violets, very pretty but quite promiscuous!
