my mini garden

I have been extremely busy, in other people gardens, unfortunately I dont have one of my own, but I maintain several gardens.
What i do have is a disused drying area attatched to the block of flats in which I live, and I have a mini greenhouse and severeal grow bags, about 8 tomato plants, an aubergine, strawberries, runner beans and potatoes, growing in disused recycling bins. everything is doing nicely, not tried this before, quite exciting!

Your area sounds very productive DM. Growing plants especially food is exciting as you say. Where do you get your water from is it near by?

Thet's nice. You can cram lots into a small space.

What a brilliant idea, inspiring! Glad everything is growing so well, it gives you that extra encouragement when you haven't done it before.

I think people like you are an inspiration and I wish you luck in your venture, hope you get some lovely veg and fruit, you will inspire others to do the same thing, brilliant.

Sounds like you made the best use of the space you have dublinsmum, and you will reap the benefits of all that home grown produce!...:o)

Thanks for your encouragement everyone, Drc726, I get my water from my own flat, which is only a few steps away., its great having it all so near to where I live, almost like having a garden. ha ha

Its lovely its so near for you.

Dcr726, yes it is. Just been out watering a few minutes ago, in my pyjamas!!!
fortunately its too ear;y for most of the other residents in my block.lol
My squash is just poking it noses through and so are the beetroots, yippee!
I hope the beans do well, and the tomatoes.
There is a rough area at the back of my block, which I have asked for permissiion to clear, just some of it, maybe to make a sitting area, there are lots of birds and we do have a couple of hedgehogs and a fox too, not sure where they live,( not in the wilderness) but they do come out at nigiht. I hope I can get permission, along with another resident who is interested in birds, it would make a super quite place to sit. The way the flats are built there is a central green area with a couple of fir trees, but its like sitting in a goldfisih bowl because its surrounded by the other flats., so heres hoping we get the wilderness to do what we want! The wilderness is actually a tarmac parking place but over the years its got overgrown and now its full of trees and brambles,....should be a challange!!!
Sorry I've gone on a bit,!

Go for it DM great trees from little acorns! If some of the other residents are interested it may be helpful to set up a working party so that they feel part of it? Also if its a group of residents the council may be more inclined to be helpful with this [project!
Have you heard of your local 'Free cycle' you may get free garden seating, bird table and other garden things offered on there free or can you request them? its all free. Good luck self help is the best help.

Maybe ask for help at your local garden centre too, they may give some plants to you to encourage your scheme, it doesnt hurt to ask. Good luck.

Drc726,and Grandmage, I hadn't thought of asking for help, but that is a brilliant idea, although it is a privately rented flat and most of them are owner occupied, but like you say, it doesn't hurt to ask. Also the freecycle mght be good for bird tables and other stuff. Thank you so much for your encouragement.

Before you ask why not do a mood board to take with you? Select a few pics to show how you think it could look/work.

Assuming we get permission to carry out our project, there is a lot of work to be done first, before we can plant ( I was getting carried away with my enthusiasm) The area is completely overgrown at present., but hopefully by this time next year we will have a nice place to sit and watch the birds, read a book or just snooze!!!!
I will keep you posted , if we dont get permission then there is nothing we can do unfortunately.

Why dont you get in touch with the folks @ gardeners world or the tv. presenters who do make overs, they might be very interested in your project !

Thats an idea,Grandmage, I will keep on to the estate agent who manages our complex and see if we can indeed have permission.
Thanks to all of you who have come up with ideas.

Now we have rain, so my veggies are going to really benefit, great!

I go to my daughter every Sunday until Tuseday and I go by train, when passing London Bridge last week I noticed a beautiful garden in the middle of some old buildings in a very delapidated area and the wording painted on the wall Urban gardens. I also noticed a shed that had been converted into a tea hut ! Another idea D.mum, afternoon teas, that will get people in. I wished the train was going more slowly so I could get a better look ! One day yours will look like this. :0)

I really hope so Grandmage, except the area in question, is very small and doesn't lead anywhere, its just a disused parking area at the back of my block of flats, but it could still look beautiful with a little (or lot in this case) of TLC and thought! Still havent heard back from the person that I wrote to, so I guess its going to have to be a phone call., and a lot of pleading.ha ha!!
:0( .... :0)

Good luck, and lots of pleading !
