New Beginnings

Well I am determined that Im going to keep a record of what Im growing, trying to grow, failing to grow and how I d**n well feel about it all! and if anyone else wants to bother reading it they can.
I began my garden two years ago when we bought the house we are now in. The place was derelict and so there was no garden at all. The small frontage is overshadowed by a huge crack willow that is constantly shedding twigs and leaves. The back was also willow shaded but we were allowed to remove 4 of the more dangerous and troublesome trees and so replaced them with other native species / cultivars (Acer Campestre, Crataegus Pauls Scarlet, Pyrus etc)
I also had use of an area in an ajacent paddock to keep my 5 chickens so in the back of the garden I had started a small veg plot. I got the greenhouse last April as a birthday gift so that should come into play this year.
At the end of last summer I lost the use of the paddock for the hens – so I had to move them back into my garden – which meant that I lost the veg plot area (just as my potatoes, sprouts and root veg were just coming on so well. I was gutted that I had to rip it all out after I had put so much work in – but the hens needed to be put somewhere secure )- so I made the ‘Chicken Garden’ Its a fenced area with a little grassy patch, a large barked area for scratching and a slope which Im going to try growing ground cover stuff on this year,it is under the boughs of an old hawthorn tree which the hens perch in the lower branches of.
But of all happy things I heard just after christmas that I had got a small plot just down the road from the house that I can grow veggies on, so this is my new project for this spring.
I will try to make regular posts and let you all know how my garden and mini plot are going, and any hints tips and comments would be most welcome.
