New Plants Arriving Tomorrow

I am excitedly awaiting the arrival of some new plants I ordered from two online nurseries …. first lot should arrive tomorrow by courier …… two each of Liriope muscari Purple, Rehmannia Elata Chinese Foxglove, Aquilegia Tower Pink & Penstemon Flamingo. The three plants from the other nursery should hopefully be here at the beginning of next week. They are one each of Heuchera Amethyst Mist, Dictamnus alba var.Purpureus (a gorgeous pink) & the dramatic hosta ‘Fire & Ice’. The garden bed at the side is all ready to receive them, & once in, they should begin to fill out that area ….. of course it will be another year at least before it really starts to look good, but I feel happy that we are on track. Stuck an Azalea Silver Anniversary, a lobelia ‘Lucia’ dark purple, & a NZ native white Kaka Beak (Clianthus Puniceus Alba) into that bed over the weekend, & inspite of very heavy rainfall over last two days, they are all looking good. Sun is shining again at last. I need good weather at the weekend, as my weekend off from work, & then on Wednesday I should be going into hospital for surgery (been postponed twice already, so that is definitely Not a certainty … I can but hope). So I want to have got all the above plants into the garden by Tuesday, as won’t be feeling much like grubbing about in my garden for a couple of weeks after that.

You will have to put some photos on Dwyllis, so we can share your enthusiasm. Good luck with the surgery and the new plants sound exciting.

Thankyou re my surgery. It will be good to get it behind me, but as it has already been postponed twice, I am not holding my breath that it will go ahead on the 28th. Once we have planted in all the new plants, I will take a photo & put it up ... though I daresay it will all look like a bare patch of earth with some plants dotted about here & there. Tomorrow I am going to plan out where each plant will go in, so that I hopefully get some nice colour combinations & balance in that garden. I know I am going to feel so excited once we have got them all in. And then we can start digging out some beds in the front area.

My thanks to all re my up-coming surgery. Will be off work for up to 6 weeks & am hoping I will be able to get out into the garden for some light work after 3 weeks. If not ..... it will be little trips to the Nikau Hill nursery, which is a privately-owned nursery within 5 mins drive from me. Have been living in this little rural town for over 8 years & have never visited it! But after looking at their online cataloque, I am now very keen to do so.

You'll like Rehmannia - I grow that, although it's not reliably hardy here. I've collected seeds this year.

Some lovely plants in your order. :-)

I wish you well in your operation.

Hope all goes well for you Dwyllis, dont hurry out in the garden too quickly now, you will need to get strong for all those plants that you will be ordering!

My first lot of eight new plants arrived two days ago & I was like a child on Christmas morning ... dashing about look for scissors to open the box & peer inside. As the rain had stopped a couple of hours earlier, & the sun was out, I waited a couple of hours more & then dashed outside with them & planted them. Still a lot of bare earth, as they are only very small right now, so I am having to resist the tempation to order a lot more plants to fill it up, & remember that each plant IS going to get a lot bigger & fill up the bed. I have 3 more plants arriving early next week, hopefully before I go into hospital mid-week, so that I can get them in & then the OH just has to water them all daily. I'm ordering a beautiful daylily called Green Dragon this morning before I go to work. Will probably order another Kiwi Claret daylily also, as same courier charge for two as for one. I am now finding myself intently studying the garden at various times of the day, to see where the full sun, semi-shade & full shade areas are. The word Obsession springs to mind. After I have worked today, I have 7 days off whether my surgery goes ahead or is postponed for the third time, so going to enjoy that.
