Rockeries

Hi everyone,
I’m very new to this website and also to blogging, but I’m just so excited to have found goY. I live with my husband in a lovely retirement village in Howick, South Africa, and we have a fairly small garden which we try to manage on our own. I have to admit that I don’t know very much about gardening but am so keen to learn all I can. However because we are on retirement we do have to go carefully when buying plants! I could go wild but have to control myself.
My latest project is going to be upgrading my rockery and also making a new one on one of the existing beds, so I am particularly happy to be able to look at all the photos of some of the rockeries and gardens…very inspiring. I hope to also be able to get some valuable advice as and when I need it.
Thank you again for your website.

Hello Eedee, as a relative newcomer to GOY I can tell you it's a very friendly site and nothing is too much trouble for the members. Have fun learning (and making mistakes now and then, that's all part of gardening too). Welcome!

Andrewr... we live about 2 kms from the falls, and yes the stalls are still there everyday. We also have a monthly flea market on the grassed area and it's always well attended. They used to have a caravan park near the falls but unfortunately that's closed down now!
Sandra...yes we do have some stunning plants here. I love some of our proteas and may well put some of them into my garden as I know they encourage the bird life. We have so many birds here in the complex!
Howick is a beautiful part of the country Cate, and I must say the climate here is so much nicer than at the coast where it gets very hot and humid. We have the heat here for sure, but it's seldom as humid (which suits me!!)
Have a lovely day everyone!

Welcome to GOY, Eedee....from so far away too :) You'll have a great time on the site, meeting new gardeners, gleaning ideas and getting help when you need it. It's also encouraging as you blog and post photos...everybody is so friendly and full of encouragement.
I too will look forward to your progress on the rockery. I'm new to gardening and GOY too and am so happy that I found this site. :)
Enjoy your day too, Eedee. We've got damp and rain here but clear weather yesterday permitted some garden jobs :)

welcome to Goy eedee, theres lots of help and advice here-- and lots of friends too -- from many different parts of the world --its amazing.
Sounds to me that growing your own plants from seeds and cuttings would be one way to go, save money and enjoy yourself at the same time, if you go to the section at the bottom of the page and click on R you'll see a list -- click on rockeries and see if anything there helps-- you can do that for lots of things, hope you enjoy Goy :0))
