Blackbird whistler

This isn’t a gardening blog as such but the bird in question frequents my garden & has been driving us mad with the tune he sings!
It seems to be the same blackbird that sings this & we’ve finally pinned down what it is.
If any of you are old enough to remember Whistling Jack Smith…his 1967 hit was ‘I was Kaiser Bill’s batman’ which he totally whistled…the first 4 notes are the ones our bird is singing exactly.
I wish I could whistle it for you to hear but I’ve just found it on Youtube if you fancy a listen.
I’m sure you think I’m barking but the point of my rambling is do you think blackbirds are mimics & has he heard it somewhere?!…Probably not but the notes are so spot on it’s spooky!
Anyway hope you are all enjoying your weekend in the garden …I am after a long, hot, hard week at work (I make candles for a living so hot wax not the best medium to be working with in this heat!!)
Best wishes, Fluff. :0

Thats agood one TT, i've a clock that on the hour you get a different bird song, & i think the blackbird sings the best out of all the 12 of them, thats funny at 8'oclock the blackbird sings and its just 8 now and he his singing is little heart out.
4 Jul, 2009
I saw that photo you took of the clock.
Maybe you could photograph it again with your new camera ?
4 Jul, 2009
TT San is coming to my house in morning to show me how to use it, dont know about taking a photo could do with speakers so you could listen to her trying to drum it into me, honestly i'm so slow at picking things up, she will have her work cut out with me, i bet when she walks out my house it will be a sye of releive.

Clarice ~ you're really clever with garden design etc, and using your camera and comments on GoY. You'll be fine learning from San. I hope you both have a great time and take a photo of the clock and a pic. of the two of you together for GoY.
Sorry Fluff for temporarily hijacking your blog. Lol. :o)

Oh dear Terratoonie...now I have a mental image of a blackbird flapping his wings to the Birdie song & getting booed off the fence by the other birds!!
Thanks for your comments & encouragement, Silverbelle...my husband has just said 'see? I told you it is addictive!'...I hope he's referring to this blogging malarky, not teaching blackbirds to sing dodgy songs.
My bird says he does do requests...though he shies away from a certain Wurzels effort...you know the one!
4 Jul, 2009
Looking forward to the photo of San, Clarice and Smokey....I guess adorable Angelina is staying at home ???
Fluff ~ That's a brilliant response to all of our comments.
Thought you might wonder what you'd started with this blackbird blog. Lol.
4 Jul, 2009
I'm looking forward to meeting you San, mind you i think photos make a place look nicer than they are, and if the sun is shinning it looks better still.
4 Jul, 2009
I don't know what he means by 'addictive'. I'm only on for a short while every day...........!! My hubby reckons it's addictive also! What can he be talking about?
4 Jul, 2009
Is hubby worried about the candle power being used by your computer ??? Fluff knows all about candles... :o)
4 Jul, 2009
angelins will be staying home TT, and have to hide my sore lips on pics lol
4 Jul, 2009
Take a pic with you hiding behind the bird clock. lol.. :o)
4 Jul, 2009
Ok I'm confused now...I know I'm being a durbrain but why arn't my comments coming up alongside you guys with that cute little photo it took me so long to provide with my name?? What am I doing wrong? You can read what I say & you reply but where am I?? I knew I shouldn't have asked for a laptop for Christmas!
4 Jul, 2009
lol TT that would be good,,

4 Jul, 2009
Fluff ~ what do you mean ?
Can't you see your comments on this page ?
4 Jul, 2009
Nah...it's ok Terratoonie...it was a 'doh' moment & I've got the gist now...sorry! Goddammit...it took me ages to summon the courage to ask you guys that question & risk looking a total schmuck & I sussed it out as soon as it was sent!
Never mind...I'm sure there'll be others!! :(
4 Jul, 2009
lol fluff sometimes we dont put our brain in gear before thinking lol
4 Jul, 2009
Fluff, by the time i answer anybody back, there talking about something else, my daughter laughs at me when i'm typing on my laptop, as it takes me forever, as i still only use two fingers to do it.
4 Jul, 2009
practice makes pefect clarice
4 Jul, 2009
Clarice ~ you type very well, however many fingers. Lol.
Fluff ~
That's good to know you can see your comments.
Don't worry. We all get confused by things on GoY when we first join... or even after that. Lol.
4 Jul, 2009

4 Jul, 2009
Heh heh me too Clarice...plus the laptop keeps falling off my lap!! I get cocky after a while & try bringing a couple more fingers into play but press the wrong button & lose the whole email!! ;(
4 Jul, 2009

4 Jul, 2009
Going to say TT i've been with goy about 15mths & had a laptop about 18mths , and still get confused, i make the excuse its my age, thats where the senile bit comes in San.
4 Jul, 2009
being on a computer is supose to be good for keeping the old brain going clarice, :o)
4 Jul, 2009
Oh for goodness sake...every comment I send has 'edit comment' written by it...wassup now?! Is it me? ;/
4 Jul, 2009
thats ok fluff its like that at first just incase you want to add to comment
4 Jul, 2009
The 'edit comment' facility lasts for about an hour... for if you wish to alter your comment.... or, as San says, add to it.
..and the flag on other members' comments is only there for you to click on, if you disapprove of someone else's comment, so don't worry that there is not the word flag by your own comments...
... presumably, you would never disapprove of your own comments. Lol.
4 Jul, 2009
one thing at a time TT, poor fluff will get confused,, lol, just joking with you fluff, you`ll` be fine
4 Jul, 2009
Thats one of the reasons i started to learn, Fluff all these little things everyone keeps putting on, like you asking i've written some of them down for San to tell me, i know what lol means then thats it.
4 Jul, 2009
That's a really good feature. No...I would never think I'd want to retract what I've said...unless of course I ask silly questions.........teehee. :0)
4 Jul, 2009
looks like its going to be a confusing visit clarice lol
4 Jul, 2009
No you were right the first time San...I'm easily confused!
My aunt emails me,Clarice & keeps putting lol after her name & i was wondering why she keeps laughing at me but she means lot of love!
4 Jul, 2009
hehe will give you a complex fluff
4 Jul, 2009
My best advice to new members is to click on your home page in box quite often to see what's there. It took me a while to get into the habit of doing that. :o)
4 Jul, 2009
i agree with TT lol
4 Jul, 2009
Glad we're agreed. Good night. Lol.
Enjoy your visit to Clarice.

Blackbirds can copy various sounds. They've been known to mimic an ambulance siren and a telephone...
Maybe this bird listens to Sounds of the Sixties on Radio Two. Lol.
